Dear HTEC Community,
On Friday, May 1st, the HTEC Classified Bargaining Team met with the CMO to pass our updated proposal. Some good news: we came to our first Tentative Agreement on Article 5, Evaluations and Professional Development!
For the remaining articles, we reached agreement where possible – particularly on language aligned with the Certificated CBA ratified in June 2025. We also engaged in productive discussions with the CMO to clarify the intent behind our proposals and move closer to agreement in future sessions. We look forward to reviewing the CMO’s next proposal.
Notable discussions included:
- Catastrophic Leave Bank and Sick Leave: We shared our rationale for this program and expressed openness to alternative language that HTH would feel comfortable adopting. Classified members currently accrue sick leave at a slow rate (1 hour for every 30 hours worked), which makes a catastrophic leave bank an important safeguard for those facing serious medical situations.
- Holiday Pay: After costing the proposal, we revised it to include pay for Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve for all Classified hourly staff, supporting income stability during a period of reduced work and higher expenses.
- Variable Hour Employees and Healthcare: We reviewed HTH’s current ACA-aligned process (12-month measurement period followed by 12 months of eligibility). We continue to be concerned that too few Classified employees are accessing healthcare and will explore options to expand coverage.
- Compensation and Benefits: We maintained our proposal for a 6% raise and healthcare eligibility for employees working 20+ hours per week. The CMO indicated they are waiting for the Governor’s May Revise before engaging in costing, and we anticipate continued discussions once that is available.
Please continue to support our Classified Bargaining campaign by wearing your blue shirts and buttons on Wednesdays and the next time we meet for bargaining on May 15th!!
HTH Works Because We Do: Support Staff, Strengthen HTH!
In solidarity,
HTEC Bargaining Team
